Pastport to History

“History in your backyard!” As part of America’s 250^th anniversary, Quatrefoil and Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation, Maryland, developed an engaging booklet to commemorate the region’s rich history. Visitors could pick up a “Pastport to History” at seven participating museums and collect stamps marking their experience for a chance to win trips to nationwide preservation sites. The select historic properties and cultural destinations include College Park Aviation Museum, Concord House historic site, Darnall’s Chance, Montpelier, Ridgeley Rosenwald School, Surratt House historic site, and Riversdale Museum.

Exploring archaeological finds, architectural history, enslaved communities, and contemporary programming—among many other topics—the publication is presented in both English and Spanish. Quatrefoil worked with multiple agencies and organizations to gather and curate the publication materials, designing for multigenerational audiences. The publication’s aim is to make local history more accessible, with a focus on community and residents’ own place within the larger context of American history.
