New Jersey State Museum

Created for the New Jersey State Museum, The Power to Change: Revolutionary Stories from the New Jersey State Archives examines how ideas about citizenship, participation, and representation have shifted over generations. Drawing on rare materials from the New Jersey State Archives, the exhibition connects historical events with questions that remain relevant today. Personal stories and hands-on experiences help visitors understand the meaning of complex historical documents and laws. At the same time, bilingual multimedia and audio make the exhibition more accessible.

Participatory experiences invite people into conversation with one another. Visitors can play a tactile question-and-answer game to compare their views with those of a friend or family member. In another area, a digital interactive encourages them to discover how age and gender have affected voting rights over the last 200 years. Throughout the gallery, take-action cards help visitors identify ways to make a difference in their communities after their museum visit.
