Potomac National Wildlife Refuge

Quatrefoil partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Potomac River National Wildlife Refuge to transform indoor spaces and redesign outdoor signage across three wildlife complexes in Virginia: Occoquan Bay, Featherstone, and Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge.

The reimagined Occoquan Visitor Center explores the region’s ecology and Indigenous history through colorful murals and interpretive panels. Stunning environmental graphics highlight native species and the area’s recreational opportunities while creating a more immersive nature experience.

Outside, Quatrefoil also updated wayfinding signage for the trail network to guide and orient hikers. The multilingual signage relies predominantly on visuals rather than text, making it easier for all visitors to connect with the landscape —no matter their language or reading level.
