United States Park Police Stables and Education Center
Quatrefoil worked with the Trust for the National Mall, in partnership with the National Park Service and the United States Park Police Mounted Unit, on exhibits and signage for a state-of-the-art, sustainable horse stable and education facility. The center is located prominently along the National Mall, opposite the Martin Luther King memorial and adjacent to the Korean War Memorial.
Visitors learn about the history of the Mounted Park Police Unit as well as the strong bond forged between horses and officers. They’re introduced to the contemporary role of the unit and modern veterinary practices of caring for the horses.
Quatrefoil developed multi-sensory strategies for teaching these concepts, including a smell-based interactive that explores different kinds of grasses and feed. Stations also feature tactile flipbooks, equipment displays, and exploratory sculptures for visitors of all abilities and ages.
We continue to develop and adapt new exhibits as facility staff assess and evaluate public engagement. Future exhibits include storytelling opportunities of past and present
officers and other community-focused content.
