Over 200 years ago, people repurposed old merchant ships in Alexandria, Virginia, to create fill for new land along the Potomac River. In 2018, archaeologists discovered these ships during the redevelopment process of the waterfront, under what is now the Robinson Landing neighborhood.

In collaboration with Historic Alexandria, we’re happy to showcase a new eye-catching window front exhibit that explores the “Buried Ships of Robinson’s Landing: Archaeology on the Waterfront.” It includes compelling graphic panels, environmental sails, and didactic media, as well as scale models that highlight excavated portions of the ships. This attention-grabbing exhibit is designed to make passersby take notice of the city’s rich history underfoot.
