Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum

Working with both the American Alpine Club and the Colorado Mountain Club, Quatrefoil designed the exhibits for this museum, using climbers’ personal stories to draw visitors into explorations of the art, history, tools, skill and fellowship of mountaineering and the mountain environment. The immersive experience begins as visitors descend a staircase and traverse a glacial crevasse. A variety of tactile, full-body, mechanical and multimedia activities allow visitors to “camp” in a portaledge, hang from an ice pick on the face of an ice-covered cliff and much more. A 2008 review in the Denver Post exclaimed “The museum is brilliantly designed!”
