Liriodendron Mansion

Liriodendron mansion is a historic home with deep connections to the founding of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Maryland. The theme of “discovery” is sprinkled throughout the visitor experience through a combination of graphics, displayed objects, digital media, and activities that link the interior and exterior. The building’s exterior grounds feature graphic interpretation and QR codes that engage visitors with fascinating oral histories and curated video clips.

This diverse approach to content and its display appeals to different kinds of learners and varied age groups. The mansion also operates as a venue for special events and rotating exhibitions. Quatrefoil balanced the mansion’s dual functions, integrating the permanent exhibitions into the home’s historic aesthetic in a way that allows it to recede when an event like a wedding is taking place. The flexibility allows staff to quickly transform rooms for talks, corporate gatherings, and community meetings.
