Join us for a thought-provoking workshop exploring how Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) inspires multicultural and multigenerational audiences to embody the Japanese American WWII soldiers’ core values of courage, sacrifice, equality, humility, tolerance, and patriotism.

Description: Led by Mitch Maki, the executive director at GFBNEC and Quatrefoil’s direct of design strategies Michael Burns, participants will learn about this important chapter in American history and how GFBNEC has evolved its programming and outreach through its engaging permanent and traveling exhibitions, innovative NextGen programming and unparalleled resources such as the Hanashi Oral History & Special Collections. Hear how to keep history alive and relevant by connecting historical facts, personal stories, and community anecdotes with today’s social dynamics of social justice, civil liberties, and democracy. The workshop includes an opportunity to explore GFBNEC’s permanent, interactive Defining Courage exhibition housed in a former Buddhist temple in historic Little Tokyo. Participants are also invited to join GFBNEC and Quatrefoil staff at the iconic Far Bar restaurant for continued informal conversations (lunch is not provided).
